The world's most expensive car  Ferrari 250 GTO

19 July 2023

It cannot have escaped anyone that the Ferrari 250 GTO is the world's most expensive car.

But GTO prices have actually been on a downward trend, so the new price record is surprising.

A Ferrari 250 GTO from 1963 which has chassis number 4153GT and was originally driven by French racing driver Pierre Dumay. Despite the fact that the car took part in most of the major competitions of the time, it managed to manage without major damage, which affected quite a few of the 39 Ferrari 250 GTOs that were built. The car is largely completely original.

The Ferrari passed through several car collectors and was renovated by British Ferrari specialists DK Engineering during the 90s.

Car broker Lukas Hüni was involved in the sale and the new owner is David MacNeil, CEO of car accessories company WeatherTech. According to sources with insight, the purchase price was 70 million dollars, at today's exchange rate 616 million kroner.

When cars are auctioned, the final price is naturally public, but a lot of these exclusive cars are sold privately and the purchase price is often secret. Classic Bugatti models are likely to have fetched $30-40 million in private deals, but David MacNeil now holds the unofficial record for his $70 million Ferrari 250 GTO.
